I don't mind hearing "chinks"/"chinamen"...sometime s I get a feeling that it's just white guy's way of saying "smart people" =)
In my university, people from HK /China outperform local people in every subjects.
Chinamen = men from china = the top people in Universities all over the world.

I am from HK. I do use "lee D". "nay D", "lay D" and "leeD" are all used in daily conversation. I think it's just habit.
