    Thank you! It's a funny (another funny) thing about Cantonese. The speakers of it look down on their own language for various reasons, yet demand other speakers to speak it perfectly. But it's all about their schooldays. The ones who were reprimanded most severely are the ones most eager to get "revenge" by criticizing other adults. Let them carry on - this is all about communication, not trying to be something you can't.

    Great point about speaking with an accent in Cantonese... I never thought about it that way before. My Cantonese is gradually improving, but I am still scared to use it other than with my husband. Sad really because I think nothing bad of the various people who try to speak heavily accented English to me... On the odd occasion I have used it I am met by blank looks and even laughter.... Kind of off putting!
