Of course it comes from an animal, you dope. It's leather!!! Animals aren't "skinned alive" either. Leather craft hobbyists use relatively small amounts of leather compared to the corporations that manufacture your leather cars seats, office chairs, wallets, shoes, coats, sandals, gloves, jackets, etc. And if you're worried about animals don't take medicines or visit doctors b/c most medical/pharmaceutical research involves animal testing. BTW, it's "where ARE those leathers from".

I recently bought an entry level swivel knife at Tandy's store in Tacoma WA. The blade was extremely blunt so I used my knife sharpening stone and oil to get it well sharpened. Now the jeweler's rouge that I picked up should be good for maintaining the sharpness. The Tandy video showed using chipboard cardboard for putting the rouge on but I like the leather technique you show.
