You completely ignore any rational reasoning under the straw man argument that all beliefs are the same - this is absurd. A 'belief' that the earth is flat as not the same as the belief that the earth's surface is mostly water; one is true, the other isn't.

Also, thanks to science we know what the universe is made up of. (Hint, it's not God's jizz).

if you do not share the same belief, then fine... believe what you want to believe... like i said, we will only know the real truth in the end... if in the end i am right, then great! if not, then it's still fine with me... it's not like i'm not enjoying my life because i have faith in god... ;)

it's not like religion limits human advancement, believing that god exist doesn't put handcuffs on you or something... there are many scientist who are also religious people...

@harsh colby - well, my "favorite" god as you call it happens to be the most plausible god in existence based on my own observation... i listen to people, theists(various religions) and atheists alike, and came up with what i believe now because that's how i understand it... it's my reality in life...

ponkadolz, your Pascal's Wager argument carries no weight.

What if any of the other 1000's of gods is true instead of your favorite god? What if the Great Juju at the Bottom of the Sea is the correct god? Then you're screwed.

Then again, it's not too late to accept FSM into your heart and be saved. You just can't beat beer volcanoes in the afterlife.

When no evidence is required, then all crazy ideas are possible, but it gets you nowhere towards knowing what's real.

Throw all your life into a bogus insurance policy that has no guarantees?

People think they have a guarantee, so they become lazy and don't advance their understanding.

This is the exact reason that religion is so dangerous. This is the kind of attitude that has prevented us from advancing to our full potential for thousands of years.

Very disturbing :(

in the end, no one really knows the real truth... you may claim that you know but in all honesty you really don't... because you were just told by the people who were also told and it goes back to the very beginning, the first person to THINK that he knows something... but personally, believing in god has more advantages than not believing... because if in the end god really is true then those who don't believe are really REALLY screwed... it's not too late to change your opinion people ;)

No matter how many mediocre illustrations you come up with there is no intelligent way to argue against intelligence. To argue for random, unintelligent, purposeless existence, you would have to make random, unintelligent, purposeless arguments. Which you have.

That's fine for convincing other stupid people, but I'm fearfully, wonderfully, intelligently made, so it doesn't work for me.

What you are basically saying can be put like this:
There is a ball on a table. People around it can see it, touch it, feel it, hear it when it's bounced.
They agree "Yep, it's a ball on that table alright".
You go and say "No, there is no ball there", and justify yourself so that it's an equally valid theory of the existence of the ball.
You are saying this despite you too can see it, touch it, feel it and hear it bouncing.

That's nonsense? Yes, but that's what YOU are doing right now.

Misfit: "A belief is a belief and it has nothing to do with reality."

And there's your problem summed up nicely!

The rest of us trust reality.
