The light is ionized gas - not your "aura". If you take this image in a vacuum you will have no glow at all.

In the early 1970s as part of a high school class, we went to visit Dr. Thelma Moss, the foremost authority on Kirlian photography at the time. We went to her lab at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
If you recall the movie Poltergeist, a parapsychologist comes into the home to film and study the phenomenon. It is Dr. Moss whom they were portraying.
The Kirlian photos were all quite real and fascinating. Pretty, actually.
