Sometimes l'm tempted to think that Beethovens 6th is essentially what Mozart would have written if he had lived to the same ripe age as Haydn, but then when l hear his 5th l'm waking up to the fact that Beethovens talent was of the same august uniqueness as Mozart and therefore incompatible with any other composer.

there is, however you might be tempted to think that because there is no pause between the 3rd and 4th movement.

i just played this with a symphony so i should know :)

have you never heard the fourth movement. Well if you havent you must hear it, its one of Beethovens greatest peaces, its absolutely stunning.

Yes it has.

First movement: Allegro con brio
Second movement: Andante con moto
Third movement: Scherzo (Allegro)
Fourth movement: Allegro

No, my friend, Beethoven's only symphony with more then 4 moviments its the sixth.

Actually, that may be argued. Beethoven's 9'th Symphony is sometimes given 5 movements (splitting the fourth into the orchestral and choral parts). For example, Deutsche Grammophone always releases the 9'th with 5 movements.
