this doubling time formula is pretty neat

The math may be correct, but it ignores an important principle of economics. There is no accounting for the price mechanism. It is easy to overlook since so frewuently steps are taken to artificially control prices in one direction or another. As the price per gallon of gasoline went over $4 there was more interest in using less fuel. As less fuel in available there will be shifts to alternative fuels for different uses. Unless states interfere with the price mechanism it will work.

Yes. I was thinking that markets and advances in alternative energy might solve this one. Also feel free to build a nuke plant in my backyard.

As host of the plant, you will receive a discount.

The price and demand of the oil or coal in the short term doesn't matter if you have a finite resource with no viable alternative (in the existing infrastructure). In a growing global market, if we stop using oil or coal at a certain price there can be no sustainable growth at current living standards. Even developing alternative energies takes existing resources. This video simply shows us that we will have to drastically lower our standards of living if the worlds population continuestogrow

As the price of increasingly rare fuels rises, alternatives become comparatively less expensive.

Very true, but without significant expansion of our electrical infrastructure and alternative energy sources, we have no alternatives. Furthermore, unless the price of alternative/renewable energy plummets, we still must lower our standards of living as the world population continues to grow and consume more energy.

Wrong. Gavin Menzies book "1421 the Year China Discovered America" has been thoroughly debunked.

When I first read it, I was amazed. Then you start reading reviews by actual scholars, and learn that Menzies drew conclusions that were easily debunked, he outright guessed at some points, and just plain made up the filler he needed to connect his dots.

I think this video series need to be taken with a grain of salt.
There have been a lot of alternative ways of generating energy in the past 5 years that easily extend the crude oil for many more years.
Solar energy, wind turbines, and nuclear power for electricity. Electric powered vehicles, cane conversion to oil, etc...
