This vid was recorded at one of our african drumming workshops with Ali Bangoura. Ali is a lively, talented musician, originally from Guinea and now based in Brighton with Batafon Arts. (www.batafonarts.co.uk) Our group meets every Friday at Fishbourne church hall for regular workshops with Tony Montana - an excellent djembe player and teacher, and once monthly with Ali. All levels are welcome. For further info on our Fishbourne workshops see www.fishbournedrummers.co.uk
i'm guessing this guy didn't grow up playing djembe.
From Guinea, Ali Bangoura was born into a family of professional artistes and has been dancing and playing the djembe since he was 7 years old. He underwent formal training in traditional music, dance and choreography, and was selected to join his national troupe - Les Ballets Africaine - at the age 15. In 1981, his government awarded him sponsorship to travel across West Africa to learn about the different music and dance traditions and to research the varying cultures of the region
