Im going to beijing next summer for 4 weeks with a friend. Is it true that it is only sky scrapers and modern buildings? is it not any old, nice chinese style buildings left? only modern things?

There are a few small streets with old houses near the imperial palace. The hutongs are vanishing rapidly to make way for modern progress. The government however is becoming aware of their cultural importance and historical value. Some old streets and houses have recently been restored. They are a main attraction for many tourists visiting Beijing.
