thanks very much. I'm a guitar player myself, although I share little with Joe Pass except the hair line. He makes it looks so easy. It is not. I grew up listening to Ella, and Sarah Vaughn, and Billie Holiday, and other "big band era" singers. My mom was a professional singer during those year ('38 until '45) and played big fancy hotels. I play local pubs and restaurants. Even in the rock era (and whatever it is we're in now. Ugh.) I thought Ella was in a league of her own, the best ever.

There is- and will be- no better jazz singer than Ella Fitzgerald. Would she even get hired for this gig today? She dresses like a librarian, and now you gotta look like a hooker. Ella: pure class, pure genius. And Joe, same to you. What a player.

I think they had passion as well for songs back then and you can hear it in their voices as opposed to MOST of the songs and singers these days

I know generation after generation says this, but I think it is really true this time. Why don't they make music like this anymore? There can be different styles like pop and indie and rock...so long as people learn how to SING.
