HUH? Lesser Britain? Never Heard of it. There is Only 2 Islands 1:Scotland/England/Wales & 2: Rep of Ireland/ Northern Ireland.

The two islands make up the British Isles. The larger island comprising of Scotland, Wales and England is called 'Great Britain' because it is larger - it is the greater size. The other island comprising of N. Ireland and Rep Ireland is lesser Britain because it is smaller. But together they make up the entire British Isles - the British Islands. That is why the UK is known as Great Britain and Northern Ireland because it covers the Greater British island and the top of the smaller island.

There's no such thing as 'lesser Britain'... There's Great Britain (Scotland, England and Wales) and Northern Ireland, which make up the United Kingdom. The Repuplic of Ireland is not part of the UK, it is completely independent, only NI is part of the UK. And fyi there are LOADS of islands making up the British Isles; The Hebrides, Orkney, Channel Islands... Not just mainland UK.

Its not officially called 'lesser Britain' that's just what I used to explain it as the smaller island. I'm not talking about Rep of Ireland being part of UK at all. Republic of Ireland is part of the British Isles - the islands of Britain. Great Britain is the geographical name of the largest British island. Great Britain is not a 'country' - its just the name of the island. The UK is a country. I never once said Rep of Ireland is part of UK but it is part of the islands of Britain.

Take North America as an example. America is the name of the continent but USA, Canada, Mexico etc are the names of the countries making up North America but people sometimes incorrectly refer to the 'USA' as 'America' when it should be the US or the USA. It's like me saying Canada is part of America and you thinking I mean part of the USA. 'America' like 'Britain' is just the geographical description of the place, it's not a country!!

It was a clever, impartial commentary. We Scots should be less prickly- The English put themselves down; it's only we Scots always trying to prove ourselves. Modern England is multi-cultural with heavy Muslim, Caribbean and increasing East European character. Native English are treated with contempt and deserve our support. Things have moved on. No point in we Scots behaving like spiteful infants- it's as retarded as throwing poop at the moon

Many Scots would disagree because then they couldn't claim to be half Irish
