Not to be critical of Frank Zappa, because this is clearly musical genius. But is there something I'm missing here? I can't enjoy this.

YES! there is something huge you're missing, he wasn't officially making fun of the music, but his comedic approach to everything lets you laugh at this piece of music, i guess you should listen and really take in what he said at the last part. that will show you.
