Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks), a gay lawyer infected with HIV, is fired from his conservative law firm in fear that they might contract AIDS from him. After Andrew is fired, in a last attempt for peace, he sues his former law firm with the help of a homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller (Denzel Washington). During the court battle, Miller sees that Beckett is no different than anyone else on the gritty streets of the city of brotherly love, sheds his homophobia and helps Beckett with his case before AIDS overcomes him. Hope you like it!!

The other two AIDS patients you're talking about in the movie are the real deal. Daniel Chapman and Mark Sorenson. Both passed away of AIDS not long after the movie was made. Daniel Chapman is the guy at Beckett's funeral. That's exactly how he looked on a day to day basis. You should see the documentery "One foot on a banana peel, one foot in the grave" by Juan Botas. Daniel Chapman figures prominently in it.
@ServeHaShem, I have the dvd where it appears. It's very shocking realistic point of view of this disease, I cried when I watched it but I also had fun with them. they had a very special sense of humor. it's very sad how Juan Botas had to leave at mid of documentary. It was a horrible disease at that time, hopefully nowadays it's much better and people don't die so quickly. Tom Hanks MADE a perfect job on this film. I love Andy Becket very much. I lived with him during all the film.
