Little slugger, being the manifestation of peoples guilt and fear.

And to think this all started with a death of a little dog :(

Except Lil' Slugger. He's laughing in a pasture because peace is what goes against him.

Interesting analysis... I thought of it another way: these people are laughing because they've accepted delusions in order to defend their lives. That way, they can stand in the middle of their worst nightmare and laugh, because the delusion protects them from it... Slugger laughs because he IS that harmful delusion, because he gives them a kind of peace, and yet he is not peaceful.

And with Susumu Hihrasawa composing the soundtrack, it paved the way for Paprika.

And if you thought this show was confusing, watch Satoshi Kon's movies -- "Perfect Blue," "Millenium Actress," "Tokyo Godfathers" and "Paprika." To this day I sitll think "Perfect Blue" is one of the best movies, live or animated, ever made.

I agree. I still get chills just thinking about it. And Susumu Hirasawa is the best there is!
