Its an 8" shell with a speaker wired in reverse so its a biiiiiig microphone diaphragm. And the bigger the diaphragm the lower the frequencies you can pick up.

im not sure that all the way true. you can be as creative as u wanna be, but if you lack the chops ((the roots of all drumming)) then some one who posses the chops is better than you.
