The first out of three episodes of the program "Panorama: What now Mr President" made by the BBC. All rights belong to the BBC, I just felt that the rest of the world should be able to see this program.
Description: "Barack Obama takes over as US President with a promise to dramatically change America and make it a fairer place. He is inheriting the worst economic crisis in almost a century, and a country so unequal that 23,000 people die every year because they cannot afford basic healthcare. To close the gap between rich and poor Obama will have to take on the might of the corporate world, which wields enormous influence in Washington. Can he change the world's most powerful country, and should he?"

I can't believe what I'm seeing. I thought the US had good healthcare, comes to something when a 3rd world charity has to set up shop in a 1st world country. I suppose it makes sense when you think about it: a corporations first priority will always be profit...
Nah mate, America has pretty awful healthcare unless you have money, where you get the same healthcare as europeans except you get ripped off by profiteers. They keep telling people how good they have it because 80% of americans do not own a passport and live in a bubble.
That is true, I pay for my insurance and have to worry about co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions. I work for a company that provides some form of government insurance to the uninsured, I would gladly lose my job to see families take care of. I'm young I could start over again with school and financial aid.
Sorry to tell you... political parties just f*** things up. National health care is a bad idea because we all will have to pay for it. Think about this: Is it fair for you to pay for a strangers cancer which lets say costs about $200,000/yr, Now if it was just one person, but what about millions? Somebody has to pay for the health care... but most people are healthy. Free health care means that everyone pays large amounts for health in taxes, which means that rate of poor people increases!
well yeah it is fair. if you have more you should share. its called EQUALITY. go to sweden. there isnt 23 thousand people dying because they dont have healthcare
Well, they help the poor and there are poor people everywhere. I'm glad there are charities that help those who cannot afford. I just wish that jobs would be required to have good health insurance, and that people practice prevention more often. (How often do you wash your hands in a day?) Insurance was created for the big stuff, ie unexpected illness, but people use it too much for colds, hence why it's so expensive. If you just stayed home and got fluids, you get better, no need for meds...
Yes yearly PAPs after the age of 25, but before they do not...
"UK does not screen for cervical cancer until age 25... the NHS does not feel there is enough evidence to support screening for the disease earlier than 25." thehealthyblogger. com/tag/jade-goody
It was an article about Jade Goody where I got my info... still the point is that a free health care system isn't worth it, (and this from someone who can't afford insurance.) Health awareness and prevention taught in schools is best.
It's easy to hold such an ignorant opinion when you do not actually need medical aid desperately. Do you honestly believe that all illnesses are preventable? That is incredibly stupid. You can live a flawless life and still require treatment for cancer, diabetes and all kinds of other illnesses.
You keep your shitty system, the rest of the world is leaving you behind. It's the americans losing out when they fall ill and can't get help. But at least you can go to canada and steal heathcare! :)
