I guess they didn't do much in damage control or in crash investigation.

This is really foolish to keep a design flaw, considering excluding it would have no significant change in outward appearance, and may help 100% preserving all the immense amount of work they put into building the plane from the first fool who takes it up and around the block. If all it takes is some extra glue and a few more tacks to save a plane and a pilots life, they should of done it.
