THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC

The most important song on the Union side during the war. This is dedicated to my great-grandfather, Cade Suran, who served in the 13th Indiana.

only a ignorant yankee would say southern aggression started the war
the union had invaded the south before the war started and refused to leave despite S.Carolina asking for months.
the union knew it would lead to war and they refused to withdraw there soldiers.
if you ask any person thats not completely biased they will tell you the south was justified in opening fire on the northern troops that refused to leave.

im not looking for a fight but thats not true at all
union soldiers had taken fort sumter after south carolina had seceeded. so think about it the union soldiers took a southern fort in a fort after they had declared independance. S. Carolina's government demanded they leave the fort and retreat north but the union soldiers refused, thats like russia coming the states and just takeing one of the US forts and refusing to leave.
so after months of putting up with it they finally opened fire

Unfortunantly for you, the lady who wrote it wrote it as a patriotic song. Notice it says "As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free." It is an abolitionist song.

The CSA Constitution endorsed slavery as did Pres. Jefferson Davis, & the CSA fired the first shots. Southern aggression started the war.

The video portrays the Civil War as a fight to free slaves. That is far from the truth. The emancipation was the Union's way of hurting the Southern Economy. Big industry was evolving. Slaves were becoming expensive. The union didn't care about slaves. Sadly, the South was made out to look bad because it fought back. The Confederacy fought against oppression for the sake of progress. It fought the very evil and persecution that brought the pilgrims here in the first place.

You're obviously seeing only what you wish to see. The battle against slavery was part of the war but largely secondary to the fight to preserve the Union. It is depicted as such. Considering the fact that the Richmond regime continued to allow the sale of human beings you'd be wise to avoid the use of "evil" and oppression".
