Bolan is singing live, but there are definitely backing tapes being played underneath the soundtrack over which T.Rex are playing along. (It is probably due to tv production quality in 1972)

he is playing live,but what you are hearing right now is TAPED. Now I saw Marc in Toronto and did he sound great? Yes. But Bolan was like many UK artists,pre- taped for the audio but did play live for the audience.

Ok, I will clear up the conclusion. Here are the facts. Marc often sang with his record, rather than a straight lip sync. That is what he is doing here. Flo and Eddie are doing backing vocals and they certainly are not on stage. But he is singing along as he so often does.

if it's live how come the guitar is playing from 1.52 - 1.59 without touching it ha ha.
