One of -the- cats, (great tone & riffs a given): He never had to lean on the rhythm section to catch a groove, begin a line, or find the change. A leader in the truest sense: If you got a bit lost, you could find your place in Gary's strong playing. This is a rarer virtue than a casual listener might realize.
