The Most Advanced Quadruped Robot on Earth BigDog is the alpha male of the Boston Dynamics family of robots. It is a quadruped robot that walks, runs, and climbs on rough terrain and carries heavy loads. BigDog is powered by a gasoline engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. BigDog's legs are articulated like an animal's, and have compliant elements that absorb shock and recycle energy from one step to the next. BigDog is the size of a large dog or small mule, measuring 1 meter long, 0.7 meters tall and 75 kg weight.

They kick it to demonstrate that it can recover. But isn't it funny how we react to it as though it had feelings? It's just a fancy all-terrain tractor, but I kind of react as if it were an animal, too.
It's the leg movements, I guess. They're very organic.
Yes this is just a prototype and it has flaws, wait for the production model and Im sure that it will be silent and it will be able to kick that guy back.
Reply to FatRakoon: I wanted to make the same point, but you beat me to it. 'Bunch of ignoramus donkeys around here can't appreciate the effort put into a work in progress. The noise is just a temporary gas engine while they perfect a silent power source. The indoor track model that they use for testing in gallop mode is tethered to power and data cables and is completely silent.
Any robot on legs without wheels that can correct itself from being kicked is impressive in my book.
