Lord Rockingham's XI was a group of musicians cobbled together in 1958 to play on the ITV show Oh Boy, which in turn, was thought up by pop impresario Jack Good, as a rival to the hugely successful BBC show Six-Five Special which went on the air a year earlier. Hoots Mon was a jazzed-up version of the old Scottish song A Hundred Pipers, and it reached no. 1 in October 1958.
