Although he's clearly lip syncing here, people who are intimately familiar with this song will notice that this is a slightly different, alternate vocal track from the commonly heard studio version played on pop radio. Very nice and not uncommon for movie tracks in the 60's to have slightly different vocal tracks.

the word is not cross, but 'cross, a legitimate contraction if you allow for poetic liscence.

I Live & Love Liverpool, My website has Liverpool in the Background. Im thinking of having ferry cross the mersy playing as people click onto my site..im going to france next week to vist my brother, who's 50..guess what song I will be singing to him....
Thats right "ferry cross the Mersey"...rock on Liverbirds...

Maybe it's an imperative. "Ferry, cross the Mersey!" I'm also disappointed that there is no room in the song for the word "Birkenhead".

Try singing it with the word 'across'....it doesn't really fit. Sounds better with 'cross' even though that's not proper word usage.
