You can say that again. The novel is an amazing piece of work. His first novel too! The story is more complicated than the film but the film is very good in it's own way. Michael Caine is a great Harry Palmer, although of course, Deighton never used that name. My own favorite Deighton novel is The Billion Dollar Brain, mainly for the wonderful writing, but I like everything he has done. What a talent!
