Four architecture offices, BIG, INABA, MAD, and Mass Studies have joined forces to create four urban proposals for the city of Ansan, South Korea. The project, curated by Jeffrey Inaba, will be exhibited at Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art from December 17th 2008.
At first glance, these proposals represent a new urban plan for the city: a suite of would-be iconic and monumental new buildings. Yet the proposals also function at a different scale: in the gallery itself, the models used to advertise each project take on a new role, as furniture for the gallery space.

How hideous! Another ridiculous monstrocity rendered by computer. The residents will never know what its like to see stars in the night sky. Perhaps the designers watched Blade Runner too many times. Cold, lifeless, weird, off world, alien-like. Is this the way South Korea wishes to be seen in the future?
I think Beautiful Minds is extraordinary. How they will achieve that structure in spite of it's weight will be incredible. It actually looks very alien to me, kind of like a space ship/giant mold spore.
