Think of traditional African-American music, and gospel, blues, and jazz come to mind. Few people think of old-time string-band music. But the combination of banjo and fiddle was a deeply rooted custom in most black rural communities in the antebellum South. These young and talented musicians breathe new life into this venerable musical tradition, performing on guitar, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, and jug. Octogenarian fiddler Joe Thompson, one of the last black traditional string-band players from the previous generation, helped the trio hone its chops and the Drops serve up this high-spirited music with all the technique, vitality, and passion it deserves. TWO PERFORMANCES! Friday, January 11, 2008 at 6 pm & 8 pm $23 adults, $19 students FlynnSpace
