what do you mean ill educated? sylheti is in fact a different language than bengali, you would be able to notice the difference between the languages, people in the UK however say they speak Bengali but they speak Sylheti, this is because we dont expect outsiders to be well aware of dialects and the written form is Bangla. Sylheti is not an accent but has very differing words to standard Bangla, which is also known as Dhakaiya in the UK.

we'd rather be equipped with English than standard Bangla, what will the language lead to in the UK? nothing. Sylheti is in fact a separate language, most people don't even know Bangla, thats why the term Dhakaiya is used. Sylheti Nagari was the written form of Sylheti, but the government got rid of it, to recognize only Bangla as the national language. thats why Channel S is popular because it works for the majority Sylheti-speaking community.
