Disclaimer: YouTube took down part 21. It was NOT my decision. It was a hassle to upload it to a different site, but I did it so everyone could see the rape scene somewhere, because the movie does not make sense if Lawrence's actions are not explained. I will not answer any more comments asking where part 21 can be found, it is in the summary (of course if you're reading this you've already figured that out, bravo. A lot of people don't read summaries which is ridiculous... Educate yourselves people! And if you are, then yay :D) In fact, I will delete any comments asking where the next part is or accusing me of 'hustling' for another site. I don't 'hustle' for anything. I am making no money off of posting videos to YouTube, I am only trying to provide people with something they want to watch. 'Lawrence of Arabia' deserves to be seen. And believe me, I was pissed when they took down part 21, I still am. I do not hustle for other sites, even if YouTube does suck the sewer pipes of the corporations they hustle for.

This part of the story was carried out using little more than visual symbolism. If T.E.L was able to write about it nearly 90 years ago, Peter O'Toole was able to play the part and David Lean allowed to show it nearly 50 years ago, why the hell is it a sensitive subject today? Not to cheapen the argument but seriously, has anyone on youtube seen pulp fiction? Crazy.
You'll notice the Bey has a persistent cough in the scene. Because he couldn't show rape, he made the cough a symbolic punctuation. there's a moment when Lawrence is whipped and then there's this horrid pause as you hear the cough. Lean wanted it to represent a sexual climax... it's on the extras. Plus, he choses to cut between close ups of eyes, lips and the hand caressing the skin. It's all visual. If you read the Seven Pillars, it's quite clear what went on.
There is subtext yes but Lawrence himself was one huge question mark. Officially, he was asexual, never let anyone touch him after what happened... in the seven pillars there are hints that he... um... enjoyed it! and that, I gather, prettymuch terrified him out of the whole thing. Maybe if he'd decided to choose though itd have been men. The bey apparently lined up a bunch of boys to pick from and chose him... happened a lot I believe.
Gerturde Bell? I'm just guessing now, I have no idea! They put it in this Merchant Ivory version of something about him... It was tragically bad... But I've heard that somewhere too. Damn! Now I'll have to go and find out!
Yep, that makes sense :-) It's coming back to me now... Whatever the case his eyes were not beady and he was anything but ugly. By today's standards... or any standards even! He's handsome in an unconventional and completely disarming way...
