sorry you are wrong, it was the other way around!!
Nottingham area were the ones unhappy with ATV. and IBA agreed, ATV main studies was outside ATV area in elstree in London.  atv had to sell them and then move them to nottingham.

I think it was a recording of Bob Monkhouse randomly screaming and using profanity. This was to scare and/or shock the contestant and put them in a state of mind where they would be more likely to give a stupid answer (and therefore make better television).

They used the same recording of Bob Monkhouse right up to the Les Dennis episodes. For a while they used a recording of Max Bygraves saying the word 'turkey' over and over again (getting louder and louder) but this practice was abandoned when it caused one contestant to get in such a mess that he had a mental breakdown and gave 'turkey' as the answer to 3 of the questions in Big Money.
