How the hell did that take you so long? I just re installed (upgraded to build 7068) and it took just 30minutes.

Come back to me again after 6 months and tell me if the performance is the same.

windows 7 netbooks will be pretty expensive. Atleast 100$ more than the same with linux. There is talk of companies pre-installing windows 7 starter to keep the price down meaning you only get to run 3 programs at once. That includes av software and instant messengers.

Net books are going to get *slightly* faster. There's also going to be the 64-bit atoms and Ion-chipsets. Hell someone got Win7 to run on a 500mHz 512mb RAM UMPC ffs.
Honestly, I really don't notice that many slowdowns. I've done FF+Chrome+OpenOffice+VLC+Explo rer without any problems. Win7 is usable if effects are disabled.

Everybody I know uses Google Chat instead of IM clients now.
I'd still just get a 12" Tablet PC, not much size difference, much more functionality.

the 3 app limit has now been officially scraped, so you can run as many apps as your machine is capable of on starter edition windows 7.

Yeah with Windows you actually get enough functionality to do something creative.

1. You don't need to run Windows to be creative.
2. We are talking about a netbook. A low powered machine designed to be small, cheap and portable. With the keyboard and screen size, they were not really designed for being "creative", but for browsing the web, IM etc.
3. IMO, Windows would be a "funny" OS to run on a netbook.

Windows is not funny to run on a netbook. So, do you think a netbook running Windows XP is funny?
