In 1969 I was a senior in high school and an evolving hippie. This was a popular but sad song. I believe my generation, immediatelly following the prosperous 1950's, could see the future was going to be bleak if we continued with the "progress" that was occurring then. I think of this song almost daily in response to some world condition that now exists because of our foolishness.
