The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends "The Final Roundup" Rickenbacker International Airport Columbus, Ohio Friday September 28, 2007
IN THIS VIDEO, watch as one jumper exits from the Cessna 182 jump aircraft and deploys the American flag while the national anthem is played. The jumper is being circled by the four PT-17 Stearmans of the Red Baron Squadron, and as he makes his decent upon Rickenbacker International Airport, a flight of three P-51 Mustangs makes a pass down the show line (behind the flag) to help open up the Friday show. The jumper featured in the video is Paul McCowan, the founder of the E Team Skydivers, based in Ohio. His site is at http://www.eteamskydivers.com . Please direct all e-mails regarding any performances to Paul and make sure to tell him I sent you.
Paul McCowan also performed the opening ceremonies flag jump at the 2008 Joint Services Open House at Andrews AFB. You can view that jump at http://youtube.com/watch?v=2RDmLYRgB3k .

Like what you've seen? Well, if you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

its not illegal. that would go completely against the whole free country thing. but yes it is ceremonial to retire/burn it if it were to touch the ground but in this case it would be ok because they knew it would happen and did a great job of keeping off the ground.
God Bless America! But I thought it was illegal to let an American flag touch the ground, otherwise they have to burn it... Am I mistaken? Tee-hee, PEACE! ~Smitty
It's not illegal but proper flag ettiquet does call for a flag to be burned after it touches the ground. However, before it can be burned, it has to be cut up into different pieces and each piece burned separately. Considering the size of that flag, it would be practically impossible to not touch the ground so perhaps the rules are different in this case.
I suppose your right. See, my dad and uncle are both vets so, its kind of a big deal around my place. Pluss, they tried to catch it as it fell, so thats cool. Tee-hee, PEACE! ~Smitty
