In the end it doesn't matter too much which method you use. It's either a high jump or a long jump which is needed... The long jump is slightly faster IMO (though your way may be easier).

Those are some daring shortcuts you take. Not sure if it's the fastest to activate the Cyclops battle at Atrium. After all, the cutscene before it is 7 seconds long (even though a lot of loading happens during it for the next area). Just a theory...
