in the 80's the standard of play was not as good as in the 90's onwards up2 today. thats because snooker didnt get on the tv much til the late 70's so there was less chance of kids getin in2 it & producing potential great players

bcoz in the 80's it was in peak of popularity the net was cast wider, thats why there was a golden generation of hendry, o'sullivan, j.higgins, mark williams.

now bcoz game isnt popular its less likley ther will be new players come thru as good as those again

@toon87mill you talk shit. you could not get better than Alex Higgins ever. The only one close is Ronnie O'Sullivan

Steve Davis also, i agree Ronnie is probably the best but i've only followed snooker for 5-6 years. I also agree this guy is talking shit. Ronnies attitude at the moment is starting to pong again now, I think hes fed up.

there shudn't really be any1 on here having a go at either alex higgins or ronnie o'sullivan. if u like snooker atall then u should love them. 2 absolute legends of the game

although in a way its a shame that for ronnie its a shame he didnt get to play back then with higgins, white, davis when snooker was in its peak popularity. if he had of done he would have been treated as a total god by every1

He was not the greatest ever talent. O'Sullivan is. However he was unarguably the most charismatic talent the game has had.

I was 17 in 1982 when Alex Higgins won the world title beating Ray Reardon 18-15 in the final. He won in 1972 as well. Alex was great, but i think that Ronnie O'sullivan at his best and Alex Higgins at his best, at the same time, if you could. Ronnie would have demolished Alex. Both at their best. Ronnie scores very heavily in the balls, Alex did miss fairly often when he was in a good position. Alex was a great entertainer and a great player. I always watched alex in the 1970's and 1980's.

Positionally, this isn't a great break but the potting's incredible. That long blue with side of the top left cushion was a unbelievable shot.

Ronnie o'sullivan is the diluted version of higgins, tryiing to be controversial etc but it doesnt wash. higgins was the real deal. he has everything, what made him special was he didnt care what people thought, his life and his character was a car crash and this together with his flamboyance and snooker brilliance made him one of us, we loved him no matter what he did, a genuine rebel who made snooker huge and got fuck all thanks for it. he should be getting a large payment each year
