Hi Vernuft Well, it is a Walter tribute, after all, Marion being Walter's first name: Marion Walter Jacobs. But you know that, right? And so Mr Estrin quotes from a few of Walter's pieces here....Blue Midnight and others in passing. It's a fine performance, for sure. Best wishes from the Isle of Man, U.K.
You're right, in fact, "Blue Midnight" and "Quarter to Twelve" are two instrumentals which sound very close each other in their musical shape and way of playing. I love them both and try to play but I hardly can...
the main problem with that songs, is the tongue trino (i don't know how you call it at least we call it that way in argentina), but keep it up, wish i had a scanner, i have "blue midnight" on "papers", but for me, there's only one turnaround that's worth it, i think is the 3rd
Estrin ranks with the best ever - and I've either seen or heard 'em all, including Sonny Boy II, Little Walter, Big Walter, Jr. Wells, George Harmonica Smith, Jimmy Reed, Paul Butterfield, Charlie Musselwhite, Carey Bell, Billy Boy Arnold, Billy Branch, Rod Piazza, William Clarke, Mark Hummel, Kim Wilson & others. Have watched him since the 70's, when Little Charlie & the Nightcats were regulars at a place called Melarkey's in Sacramento CA and way before they started recording with Alligator.
