...Whoops! I didn't see vmexner's posting when I sent my reply. Makes my comment redundant, sorry.

I thought Chrysler had another concept car powered by turbine engine. I don't remember, but there were a few models that went down with a ship. Others were destroyed by Chrysler.

Chrysler had a show car named the Norseman on the Adrea Dorea that sunk on July 25th, 1956. It was powered by a 331-ci hemi V-8. Chrysler's turbine powered concept car was the 1961 Turboflite. Later Chrysler used 50 Ghia-built tubine powered cars in a national test and publicity campaign - allowing everyday people to try out the car for 90 days each. About 203 families partcipated. After the program, most of the cars were destroyed. A handful are in museums and private collections today.

@ steffidude:

The 1963 Chrysler Turbine by Ghia is what you're thinking of. 50 were built for testing by a "select audience" of drivers and all but a few were destroyed to avoid paying import duties on the Italian-bodied cars. The 1956 Chrysler Norseman show car was the one that was lost in the cargo hold of the SS Andrea Doria when it sank.

The Diable was originally built as the "Dart" near the end of 1956. It is built on a 129" frame and powered by a 392-ci hemi V-8. In 1958 the Dart was modified into the Diablo. The Dart/Diablo was used for aerodynamic experiments and Chrysler PR.
