Suffice to say a number of things influenced this. The other Who-related Opening Theme MV's... the brilliant crossover fanfiction I read recently. And a friend who is simply obsessed with both shows. So here it is. Enjoy. At the request of some fans, I also decided to include a cast listing:
The Doctor is an obvious Malcolm. Both have survived tragedy and war and are not someone you want to cross, or worse, threaten their friends.
Martha was chosen for Zoe because of their similar appearances, as well as her being part of UNIT, a military organization, same as Zoe was a browncoat.
Captain Jack was an unexpected Wash, but he remains a man who pokes fun at serious situations.
Donna became an obvious choice for Inara, saucy and not one to trifle with, particular with the scene of her preening like a companion in roman attire.
Mickey into Jayne was a bit of a stretch, but lets face it, they were both antagonistic towards their captains at times, and Mickey eventually became a badass fighter in his own right.
Sarah Jane Smith into Kaylee was even more of a stretch in a lot of ways, unfortunately, but it seemed to fit at the time.
The Master becoming Simon was by far the worst casting choice, but Doctor Who has few prominent male actors beyond its titular character, so I had to make due.
Jenny, however, was a brilliant River because of that one backflip scene alone, and they share a lot of characteristics.
And then I had to find a place for Rose, and Book was the only slot left to fill. Still, vaguely fits. The one who can keep their leader in line and remind them of their humanity.
