I don't think "a child of sin" is exactly right psychologically speaking....or morally for that matter. As it shows in the movie, when he was captured by the Turkish military, he was brutally beaten and raped (the rape is suggested in the movie, but not explicitly shown/stated), after which he did show signs of masochism.

Yes, I had grasped that. Yet, even before, wasn't there a quite weird puritan / rebel / self-hating mixture in his psychology? (sorry for these terms, I am NOT a shrink or a Freud fan)

he considered himself asexual actually...the thought of himself having sex with another human being made him sick even before the rape. I'm not sure if it was a "self-hating" thing, I think he just wasn't sexually attracted to anyone.

Yes, this makes much sense, in tune with his fascination for the desert. Somehow it is more like a repulsion regarding the impure material world, hence a fascination for death. He would have been a perfect Cathare in the 12th century

Possibly ! Let's re-read The 7 Pillars of Wisdom instead... And some history books.

dude, I know what you were referring to in the other comment...I just think that inviting literary analytical comparisons in a discussion on a REAL person who's life and motives are much more complicated is a little...immature. Let me guess, you're a high school AP English student?

I was referring Lawrence's profile (or what i perceive of it) less to literary stuff than to real people whith whom I am familiar, and who are really self-destructive, or attracted by the desert because they feel uneasy in human society, or asexual (and why not?).
