Totally untrue and very sad that 'ALL' autistic children are being labeled as 'monsters' my son is 11 and severely autistic and has not one violent bone in his body .... sickening !
I agree - I have NLD which is similar to Asperger's Syndrome and I always used to lash out at people because they treated me as an outcast when all I craved was acceptance...this advert is so helpful :]
you say were personaly attacing you because of your view but you personly attaced all the people with the same view! saying we are vicious ect it really does show how ignorent you are
It could have been presented better. The imagery and ideas were interesting, but to people who don't know what autism is, it might be confusing. They may believe that ASD causes antisocial behaviour (it doesn't). The ad did not reveal the communication difficulties that auties face or explain the reason for the frustration. It makes ASD sound like some kind of mood disorder. People need clear information- I understood it, but most people wouldn't.
Parents were also outraged. While the animation is beautiful, the message is pretty much "Autism makes you a violent monster". The ad did not show any real symptoms of autism or explain why he was violent and people feel that's damaging. It causes stigma. I think that when Dr Tony Attwood and Prof Simon Baron Cohen are involved in such an uproar, it's a big deal. I wasn't upset by it- just dissapointed, really....
