Haha. Me and my mate at school did this, we found this little plastic bit off of a plastic butcher knife. I shouted OI SUZY! and my mate whazzed it at this lad and he got owned by it. I was laughing my head off! FTW CPT MACMILLIN!!

@BlackPanteraSociety No... There were hunters who would shoot at a particular type of bird. Called a snipe. The people who hunted them were called snipers. Theese snipers would wait for hours in the same spot with longrange rifles for hours at a time waiting for the right time to shoot a snipe.

The word sniping comes from a bird in India. Sniping wasn't invented in scotland. Snipes are very alert , so if to shoot one with a bow and arrow is very difficult , and you'd have to shoot them at long range to even kill them. If you managed to shoot and kill one , they'd call you a sniper.

I saw a documentary on Discovery that said that the first snipers in practice(not in name) were in the war of independence but your version seems more solid

yea thats right, it was the british rifles that were the first 'snipers' but they only really became common when the yanks fought us
