Thanks so much.. Saw this documentary when first broadcast but it's still a treasure. We owe OP and PF a great debt of gratitude for creating such extraordinary stories with wonderfully obsessive detail. A great British duo.

One hopes that someone is going to preserve all those cans of film and they won't (horror!) just get thrown away.

Not to worry, I believe the cans and all resources are now being cared for by Smallfilms' licensing agents 'Licensing by Design' if not the BFI. I'm so annoyed, Peter had an exhibit of special alphabet art with Emily in whitstable and it ended today but I was right there and I didn't know! :(

I couldn't agree more. There really should be a BAFTA tribute to them. Let's all write to BAFTA and suggest it! Thankyou guys for helping give us such a great childhood. My kids will be watching Bagpuss when they're a bit older!

I hope these two geniuses have knighthoods for service to British culture. Actually make that peerages!
Oliver Postgate's voice is imprinted in my brain like that of a friendly uncle from childhood in the 70s (along with Brian Cant). We mimicked all his sound effects endlessly at school - Ivor the Engine's puffing, the Clangers whistling. Their stories and images are marvellous too. I'd forgotten that musical space boat - did the Beatles or Monty Python ever do better?
