Regardless of whose version you like, I think Cohen deserves more credit for his songwriting. The fact that the song has been covered so many times and that each version has so many vocal supporters shows, to me, the strength of the song, regardless of who sings it. And for that we can thank Mr. Cohen.

leonard cohen, jeff buckley, john cale, each version is brilliant in it's own way. as long as we can all agree that alexandra burke's version is overprocessed tosh.

John Cale's version of this song is hands down the best. Rufus Wainwright is not half as good as his father, Loudon Wainwright III.
