I work in Sri Lanka in ECE and encourage many aspects of Montessori, Froebel, Vogotsky, Piaget, and others. I have also publshed many articles on pre-school and would be happy to send them to your email as they are too large for yoitube comments. My point is that too many people make a fetish from MOntessori materials and application. Good pre-schools require an eclectic approach which can be influenced by Montessori but not dominated by it. By the way I am not ignorant and hold a Ph.D

This method does work, very well. Mooneyes144 is right, not every child is suited to this method. The same goes for every other education system out there. You should experience and observe before saying such silly things.

Montessori works for every child. It does not work for every teacher because not everyone understand the depth of the philosophy, but this method applied correctly works for every child.

How is it "too rigid" to have a set way of doing something that has been proven to work and that the children simply enjoy doing?

Montessori is not for all children because everyone is different and needs different ways of teaching. Perhaps douglasking is speaking from that perspective.

If you knew the basis of the Montessori philosophy you would not be one of the ignorant people out there saying that she created her method more than 100 years ago. I am not trying to offend, but people who say this kind of things about the Montessori philosophy either don't know it or they really don't understand it. The video (and the lady in it) may be dull, but the Montessori philosophy does not induce passivity at all.
