My Great Uncle Max Hunter worked on Thor rockets, &helped design them. I was looking them up to see what info I could find. Any good clips?

johncare, I know you posted 7 months ago, but I'm an RAF Driffield child, My Father was posted there when I was born in 1956.
29 AMQ was our address.
Did you know that RAF Driffield was the FIRST base in the UK to have Nuclear Missiles, or that at one time 617 (The Dam Buster) Sqdn was also Stationed there.
How big has Briddlington grown over the past 50 or so years..........??, it even had a mention in the Television series "Heartbeat"

Fascinating, a very short lived weapon in service, but important at the time.
20 years later, with all the controversy when US Cruise Missiles came to the UK, more moderate politicians suggested an US/UK 'Dual Key' system to launch them.
It never happened, but the RAF Thors had just that system.

I used to play on the Launch pads as a kid at N Pickenham, wish I had taken some pic's before it was all knocked down (about 1984ish) Is there any more film of this site? I wonder why it was knocked down, must have cost a fortune, the blast walls were huge!

The military does not typically save or note facilities of historical note so I wonder if any one has photos of the sites
or the poeple that were stationed there. It is not you, sir, it is
the lack of interest by the residents and the city and the RAF.
