The writers and actors of ER who carried out the scripts did such an EXCELLENT job-so many heart wrenching episodes, so many wonderful characters, so many awesome plot-lines. They certainly knew how to tear your heart out when an actor left the show or got hurt or suffered from some human flaw. I was a faithful ER watcher from when it started until around when Mark Greene died, and on and off for years. They did a great job with the series finale episode too. If only all TV shows were this good!

I think the same. "Orion" is the saddest episode ever. The awareness, that he can't go on with the job he did for years, the last scenes in the e.r. and the fact that he is giving the ball to carter are more powerful than the virtual death.
