http://www.ted.com Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

  • This sounds a lot like an LSD trip

  • @GREYDE2 A scientific-minded person who is close minded is no different than a religious person who is close minded. If you believe that she sounds crazy that's ignoring the facts. The facts are that this woman's consciousness perceived the world differently than we normally do, the human brain isn't all nuts and bolts like we're led to believe. There is much that we don't know and in my humble opinion we are more mysterious than anyone can imagine. What do you think GREY? I mean no disrespect.

  • Dr. Taylor,

Thank you so much. I am recovering from brain damage and have not been able to put into words my experiences.

  • "And in the course of four hours, I WATCHED MY BRAIN COMPLETELY DETERIORATE IN IT'S ABILITY TO PROCESS AL INFORMATION."

I hope this is really true. If so, this is an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT piece of information.

  • @blufire972 , that's simply true. Thank you for thinking for yourself and to show it to the others.

  • @mrbling333 this is the most utterly boring comment on a video ever, so thanks for sharing.

  • @imnotsickimjustaboy haha....yep.

  • A: Yes, it does sound like an lsd trip or similar.

B: All of you total idiots suggesting one of the smartest human beings alive today is either making this up or not getting laid(?wot?) is just spoiling life on this planet for everyone else who has managed to use thier own brain on slightly more than a simple hunter/gatherer level.

  • So how does one "shut down" the left hemisphere consciously (without the "aid" of a stroke)?

Would a sensory deprivation tank help achieve a "right brain" view?

I would love to learn how to experience this, but don't know how.

    Any suggestions?

  • wow...this is incredible.....if you can't comprehend what she's saying...then you just need to try to push through the barrier. What she is saying is highly realistic and very understandable. She's explaining in detail what ACTUALLY happens. Her brain was able to show her all this in DETAIL and allow her to remember it after...that's amazing. The human brain is SO POWERFUL....

  • @jprater12 I never stated she was lying about her experience. I only commented on my observation that I too have had a similar feeling but under different circumstances.

  • @PuraVid4 ,, OMG am I the only one REALLY watching this? She is obviously not a con artist and she crys at the end of this. Anyone who is half way descent about reading people knows she really experienced this. For those who have had strokes in the past and didn't have this experience is also ignorant b/c you assume that EVERYONE who has a stroke is going to experience the EXACT SAME experience? That the stroke is in the same portion of the brain for everyone? IGNORANCE !!!
