Me noodling about with five stroke roll on my snare and bass drum. Five strokes are played Right Right Left Left Right, Left Left Right Rght Left, with a beat rest between the switch, this way it plays to common time. Its a good way to build up strength, but find it a bit "military". I take out the beat rest and the beat can be played to four as a quintuplet over a 4/4 bass drum beat, or as a polyrhythm with the bass drum playing 4 and the snare playing five.

Yeah, I agree, but all repetitive rudiments sound kinda military. If you practice them for long enough though they'll find their way into your everyday playing without you even noticing. The 5 over four polyrhythm is really quite easy and slips into anything in either five or four time. You don't have to play this just on the snare, you can play on anything- ride, hats or toms. Once you've got the rudiment it can go anywhere.
