Yeah, I agree, but all repetitive rudiments sound kinda military. If you practice them for long enough though they'll find their way into your everyday playing without you even noticing. The 5 over four polyrhythm is really quite easy and slips into anything in either five or four time.
You don't have to play this just on the snare, you can play on anything- ride, hats or toms. Once you've got the rudiment it can go anywhere.

Ya man. I know but I think Military drumming is class. that's how drumming started. came from the battle field. it gave the soldiers confidence.
