I have just watched the Polanski version and thought I'd take another look at this one to be sure.......talk about master and pupil............about the only good thing in the Polanski version is the sets which are fantastic.

David Lean, John Huston and Fritz Lang must be 3 of the greatest Directors cinematography has ever known. I can't even think of a single film that one of these greats has ever worked on, that has been a let down. Sheer brilliance! They remind me of me only, dead, directors and brilliant. Beside's that, we're like 4 peas in a pod. :o)

Gory? What's gory, about Oliver Twist? The only mildly gory scene in Oliver Twist, is when Bill dose a bit of a job on poor old Nancy. Even then, you don't actually see anything.
