On 7th July 2008, when on holiday in Teesdale, my wife & I visited the "Head of Steam", the railway museum in Darlington. From the car park, I took photos of a 'strange' loco on the track behind. It was this loco in its workshop livery. From the last frame in the video it looks as though it had not moved since. As I do not own a camcorder, yet, it is nice to see it move.
No its a totally different class of locomotive. Scotsman was an A1 when built but the lner changed the names of the classes so scotsman became A3 and the class tornado is being built to A1
I've often thought that would be a neat idea. I think there was talk of doing that with the one at Swanage, I can't remember which one it is now, I'm sure someone will know, but it was put on ice for financial reasons, probably. Would be interesting.
(N.B. I was replying to a comment earlier about a prospective un-rebuiling of a Merchant Navy, in case this seems a little obscure. The reply function seems inconsistent here.)
