i personally think the bowler that viv wouldnt like to face when he comes into bat is waqar cause the westindian openers were veery good back then and gave the team a good start before viv comes in and if he comes into face waqar with that ball doing a bit, (wasim and waqar much rather the older ball) his leg stump might have been broken then again were talking about viv and waqar might have just went around the park like any other bowler cause viv was a beast off his pads
The late 70's early 80s ODIs was by far the most exciting cricket in the modern era, especially when the Windies and Australia played. You could name every player on both sides and be excited when they came on. There was something magical about Lillie and Richards though.
I went to see Aus vs Windies at VFL park when Joel Garner had to hit a 6 off the last ball to win against Mick Malone and he smashed for 6.
Cricket is just not the same now. They don't have the same excitement level.
darkmossie633: you make a very good point. But did face 4 very good fast bowlers in domestic cricket. Try facing wayne daniels, joel garner, sylvester clarke and malcom marshall all of whom played for Barbados!! You are also quite correct the English players did face Lillee and company and did very well, especially Randell did ver well, Botham not sure, he faced Lillee towards the end of his career with a bad back. Gower much respect. He did the WI in in Jamaica in the 1980 series!!
Richards was only human, and just as vulnerable to continual intimidatory bowling as the West Indies used for so long-the one difference-he did not face holding marshall roberts garner croft all day-or Lillee in his prime X4 all day from both ends
Look mate-England batsmen WITHOUT helmets sorted out Lillee and Thomson-
Derek Randall, Botham and Gower to mention just a few chum
Richards was a wonderful player, but would have struggled against facing Holding , Roberts, Marshall Garner Croft etc, if facing them ALL DAY LONG man! -just like all batsmen did
